November 19, 2017 4612 views

Unfortunately, one of the most common children killers in US is unintentional injury. It is vital that you take all necessary child proofing safety measures possible in order to prevent the injury from happening in the first place. There are many homeowners that say child proofing is expensive and this is why they do not do it. This is completely incorrect. There are so many things that you can do with a small budget. In fact, some of the best child proofing is incredibly cheap. Here are some things you can do quite fast.

Child Proofing The Kitchen

  • You can always install safety latches on drawers and cabinets. They are not at all as expensive as you may think. Always be sure that you keep anything that could be dangerous out of the reach of your child.
  • All the medicine and household products should be kept away from beverages and food.
  • When you use your stove, try to use the back burners. Also, turn your pot handles towards the back.
  • All the appliances and kitchenware should be kept out of reach from table and counter edges.
  • If there are open household products, try to take them with you if you answer the phone or the door. Never leave your child unsupervised.

Child Proofing Your Bathroom

  • Once again, install safety latches and keep all the store medicine or other dangerous products out of the reach of the children.
  • Toilet locks can be utilized in order to be sure that toilet lids remain close. It is quite easy for a child to fall into the toilet and a child can actually drown in just one inch of water.
  • Burns can be prevented by installing quality anti-scalding devices. As an extra suggestion, adjust the water heater thermostat to a lower temperature. Moving to 120 degrees F from 140 can make a world of difference.
  • Always unplug the electric rollers and hair dryers when you are not using them.
  • Cover absolutely all the electrical outlets that you do not use.

Other Child Proofing Tips

  • Install a safety get at the bottom and top of the home stairs and even in doorways if they lead to rooms that have hazards.
  • Doorknob covers can add extra protection.
  • Use edge and corner bumpers on items like furniture and fireplaces.
  • Furniture should be put away from the higher windows. This prevents children from climbing on the windowsills.
  • Remove loops in window blind cords whenever noticed.
  • Secure all the heavy furniture in order to be sure that it does not tip.

Conclusions

It is not at all difficult to find ways to protect the child as he learns what happens in the world. However, one of the best things you can do is to always keep an eye on your child. This is what offers the most possible protection. Prevention is always more important than dealing with the problem that appeared because the home was not child proofed.
